The Apia Park Sports Complex has been temporarily closed to the public until June 2026 to allow for essential maintenance and improvement works.
The closure was announced by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation in a public notice issued to sporting bodies, community groups and facility users.
According to the ministry, the temporary shutdown is necessary to allow the continuation of work on the grounds and facilities to ensure the complex continues to meet required safety standards.
During this period, all sporting activities, training sessions, competitions, public events and general access to the complex will be rescheduled until the completion of the works.
The ministry said the upgrades are important to maintain the quality and safety of one of Samoa’s main sporting venues, which is widely used by national sporting organisations, local clubs and the general public.
“MSR apologises for any inconvenience caused and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all sports associations, organisations and the general public while these important improvements are undertaken,” the statement said.
The Samoa Observer has emailed the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Luatua Semiperive Epati, seeking further clarification about the maintenance works and how the closure will affect scheduled sporting activities. The ministry was also asked how much the repairs are costing and who has been given the tender to complete the works.
However, there was no response at the time of publication.
The ministry said further updates regarding the reopening of the complex will be communicated once the maintenance and improvement works are completed.
