PM confirms Taioaliiseu's resignation
Prime Minister La'aulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt has confirmed that Vaimauga No.3 Member of Parliament, Taioaliiseu Fiti Aimaasu, has officially resigned from his constituency and is ready to go to a by-election.
The Prime Minister said the story of Taioaliiseu's resignation is on social media, and the MP came to him two months ago to discuss this matter.
"I guess he doesn't want to belong there, and his decision is not easy because it will affect him, his family, children and also his constituency," La'aulialemalietoa said.
"I told him, look, I can't make the final decision, the door of FAST to the constituency is also open to Ve'atauia Fa'atasi and Nonu La'ulu," he said.
The Prime Minister said he told Taioaliiseu to think hard when he came to him two months ago. He said on Wednesday, he confirmed that he already resigned and is ready to join the FAST party.
"I told him that he has to discuss this matter with Ve'atauia and Nonu, who are FAST members in the constituency of Vaimauga No.3."
The Prime Minister revealed that Taioaliiseu shared his reasons for leaving the Human Rights Protection Party, saying it was the wrong party that he chose to run under in the first place.
Taioaliiseu, when approached by Samoa Observer on Tuesday, said he will call a press conference and that the decision was not easy.
"I had to listen to what the constituency wants," he said.
Prime Minister La'aulialemalietoa said the Speaker will issue the notice of vacation for Vaimauga No.3 later this week.
