$200K to support elderly care
The Minister of Women, Community and Social Development, Moefaauouo Julius Tafuna’i, signed two Social Wellbeing Support Agreements worth $200,000 on Monday, 2 March, to strengthen care for elderly residents.
Under the agreements, the government will provide $100,000 to Mapuifagalele Home for the Aged to help with daily operations and essential care services.
Another $100,000 will go to Mapuipulotu to improve furniture and facilities, improving living conditions for elderly residents.
Speaking at the signing, the minister said caring for senior citizens is both a cultural and national duty.
“Our elders are the foundation of our families and communities. Supporting institutions that provide them with dignity, safety, and daily care is not optional; it is our duty,” he said.
He said the agreements reflect the government’s commitment to working with faith-based and community organisations that provide frontline care to vulnerable elderly citizens.
The ministry will monitor the programs to ensure accountability and meaningful benefits for the residents.
