Road users in the Siusega area have welcomed swift action by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) after a road repair crew was seen repairing potholes along the main road this week.
The maintenance work comes a day after concerns were raised with LTA Chief Executive Officer Sagauga Lealaitagaloa about the worsening condition of the road, which residents said had posed risks to motorists and pedestrians.
Heavy rain in recent weeks had left several potholes scattered along the busy stretch, forcing drivers to swerve suddenly to avoid damage to their vehicles. Parents and nearby shop owners also expressed concern about student safety, particularly during peak traffic hours.
On Tuesday morning, LTA workers arrived with equipment and materials to patch and seal the damaged sections of the road. Traffic was temporarily slowed as crews carried out repairs, but motorists said the short delay was worth the improvement.
One resident, Junior Fiso, said he was relieved to see immediate action. “We’ve been worried about this road for weeks. Cars were getting damaged, and it was dangerous at night,” he said. “It’s good to see LTA responding quickly.”
Another resident, Galuvao Fa’aitiita, said the repairs would help prevent further accidents in the area.
In a response this morning, LTA Chief Executive Officer Sagauga Lealaitagaloa acknowledged the complaint.
While some minor uneven surfaces remain, the majority of the larger potholes have now been filled. Residents are hopeful that continued monitoring and maintenance will prevent similar issues in the future.
