Blood shortage still being experienced
The national hospital called on members of the public to donate blood, as supplies continue to run low. In a recent post, health officials stressed the importance of blood donations to help patients in need and encouraged eligible donors to come forward as soon as possible.
The post was put up earlier this week and taken down again. However, checks made at the hospital confirmed that there was a shortage being experienced.
Officials explained that donated blood is needed for emergency cases, surgeries, and patients with serious medical conditions. They urged healthy and eligible individuals to visit the hospital and donate, reminding the community that one donation can help save several lives.
The Samoa Observer previously sent an email to the hospital’s ACEO, June Scanlan Lui, for comments on the ongoing shortage, but there has been no response.
Last month, there was a critical shortage of O-positive blood at Moto'otua Hospital. The Ministry of Health made an urgent call to the public to donate blood.
Samoa Observer understands that the blood bank had almost no O-positive blood in stock, a type commonly required for emergency treatment. The shortage has placed added pressure on hospital services and poses a serious risk to patients who rely on timely blood transfusions to survive.
