Samoa Police, Prisons and Corrections Services Acting Police Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga toured key Australian Federal Police facilities in Canberra this week, reinforcing regional cooperation and shared security goals.

Leiataua visited the Australian Federal Police’s Barton College and Majura Police Complex, where AFP officials welcomed him as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships between Samoa and Australia.

“Opening our doors to our Pacific partners is more than just hospitality; it’s about sharing knowledge and experience to continue strengthening our collective capabilities,” the AFP said in a statement.

The visit underscores the close working relationship between the Samoa Police, Prisons and Corrections Services and the Australian Federal Police, particularly in areas such as training, operational support and leadership development.

The tour also coincided with regional engagements involving Pacific police leaders, including activities at the Pinkenba Hub in Brisbane, where Pacific Police Chiefs have been living and working alongside Australian counterparts to enhance collaboration.

AFP representatives said the experience highlighted the value of international cooperation in addressing shared security challenges across the Pacific. In reflecting on the partnership, the AFP described international cooperation as collaborative efforts between nations, organisations and stakeholders to address shared global challenges and achieve mutual peace and prosperity.

Leiataua’s visit signals Samoa’s continued commitment to regional policing partnerships and collective efforts to strengthen law enforcement capability across the Pacific.
