Eight Samoans to join MSC Magnifica as crew

Eight Samoan crew members will embark on nine-month employment contracts when the cruise ship MSC Magnifica arrives at Matautu International Port on Thursday, 19 February, at 7:00 am.
The ship will be bringing more than 2,000 passengers and over 1,000 crew members to Apia.
According to a press release issued by Samoa Shipping Services, it will serve as the official port agent during the visit. Samoa Shipping Services is the sole licensed crewing agent for Mediterranean Shipping Company vessels in Samoa.
On board are 2,176 passengers, including eight Samoan citizens, and 1,006 crew members, including 15 Samoan crew members.
Eight Samoan crew members and one crew member from Morocco will disembark in Apia after completing their contracts. They will be replaced by eight Samoan crew members who will embark to begin nine-month employment contracts under the MSC flagship.
A total of 11 passengers, including three Samoan citizens, will also disembark in Apia.
The visit marks an important logistical milestone as the vessel currently carries 15 Samoan crew members serving in various roles.
The release states that the Government of Samoa remains committed to its partnership with MSC, which has provided employment opportunities for Samoan sailors for over 40 years through Samoa Shipping Services.
The government also acknowledged and commended the dedication of Samoan crew members serving around the world, noting that their professionalism makes a significant contribution to the national economy and strengthens Samoa’s reputation in the international maritime industry.
Members of the public are advised that Samoa Shipping Services is working with local authorities to make sure the process is smooth for all crew members getting on and off the ships.
