Vaitele tai residents still waiting for power and water

Some residents in Vaitele-tai are frustrated after delays in electricity and water connections following a recent survey by the Electric Power Corporation.

Jay Alofi said the EPC team visited his home three weeks ago and told his family they would return to connect their power lines.

“They said they would get back to us to connect our electricity, but until now, nothing has happened,” Alofi said. “Our power lines are still not connected.”

Meanwhile, nearby residents Tulaga Lua and Lesina Afualo said no EPC officials have visited their homes. Lua said he has not been contacted by anyone from EPC or the Samoa Water Authority regarding electricity or water connections.

“No one has come or contacted us yet,” Lua said. “We just want the same service as everyone else,” Afualo added.

Residents said the delays are frustrating because more families are moving into the developing area, and access to electricity and water is essential for daily living.

“Everyone in the neighbourhood should be surveyed and connected at the same time,” Alofi said.

Community members are urging EPC and SWA to provide a clear schedule for surveys and service connections. They said a transparent plan would avoid confusion and ensure households are not left waiting while neighbours receive service.

Authorities have not yet stated when the remaining homes in Vaitele-tai will receive visits or connections.

Residents say timely action is critical to meet the basic needs of all families in the area.
