The police arrested an inbound passenger from a Fiji Airways flight from Nadi to Apia, which landed at 1 am on Wednesday, for trying to bring marijuana into the country.

He was detained and questioned after the narcotic was found on him.

The police did not confirm whether the passenger, who is of Samoan background, was travelling straight from Nadi or transiting.

It has also been confirmed that the passenger was released after being questioned and charged with possession of marijuana.

Sources at the Samoa Airport Authority also confirmed that a passenger who was on the Fiji Airways flight early Wednesday morning was detained, but they were not sure of the reasons behind it.

Attempts to get more details from acting police commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga were unsuccessful.
