Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo confirmed that the 29-year-old suspect accused of killing a 14-year-old disabled girl at Salepoua'e, Saleimoa was charged with murder.

The man allegedly killed the teenager on Saturday morning, leaving the community shocked. He is the uncle of the victim.

"He has already been charged with murder and remanded in custody to appear on 5 May for his court appearance," he said.

The incident can only be described by the witnesses as 'horrific' and 'disturbing'. The deceased was found behind the bathroom when the younger members of her family went to look for her. The uncle was still at home when the police arrived on Saturday.

The 29-year-old who has been charged was the only prime suspect. The deceased is a female with physical disability who requires assistance from family members to move around. The teen was left at home with the suspect and other younger members of the family while the other family members went for Sunday shopping.

Her body was found behind the bathroom, hidden under some leaves and other materials, but it was discovered by the children who were at home. It is an incident that will continue to haunt people who witnessed the crime scene.
