10 applications so far for energy crisis help

Those affected by the energy crisis on the island of Upolu have until Friday this week to submit their applications to assess the impact of the energy crisis on households and businesses.
Since Wednesday last week, the ongoing power rationing has come to an end following the installation of five rented generators.
Meanwhile, the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has received 10 submissions to be assessed by a subcommittee; five from businesses and five from households.
NEOC Controller Lealaisalanoa Frances Brown–Reupena said many have expressed interest in the forms that are now distributed and circulated publicly, and will be reviewed by the committee.
More forms are expected in the coming days as sector coordination units continue to collect data from government ministries and affected stakeholders including the Chamber of Commerce.
NEOC was asked about its position on the small number of submissions made and whether there was enough public awareness of the forms.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Lealaisalanoa responded that the public were given two weeks' notice to fill in the forms that are due on Friday 25 April.
She said a short video will be released later in the day to assist the public in filling the forms and people also have the option of contacting the NEOC office for any queries they might have.
“Many have expressed interest in the forms and many other forms being circulated and probably in another two days we will see more submissions…,” she added.
Official forms are available for households, businesses and institutions to gather accurate information on damages to electrical appliances and equipment, disruptions to services and loss of income resulting from the power crisis.
The information collected will guide the planning and coordination of targeted and reasonable support for those affected by available resources.
The form noted that completion of the application does not guarantee compensation or replacement of items but will assist the government in identifying the most affected and vulnerable groups and prioritising assistance accordingly.
Only those within the affected areas of Upolu are required to complete the form and provide relevant supporting documents before or by 25 April.
