Dengue causes evacuation of 12-year-old to NZ
Louis and Taunese Lene are going through difficult times as their son Misiafa Nathan Lene is in a coma from acute dengue. They are in awe of the love of God and Samoans here and abroad for the financial assistance shown.
Misiafa was hospitalised at the Intensive Care Unit of the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital, Moto'otua and needed blood transfusions to be able to survive.
A plea from the parents to the members of the public who happen to have blood type "O" to donate was able to assist Misiafa as he went through treatments at the ICU.
The parents acknowledged the love from all who have donated their blood for their son.
Misiafa was taken to Auckland New Zealand on Saturday morning for treatment and Mr and Mrs Lene could not thank all the good Samaritans who have helped not only on a GoFundMe page that was made on social media but also all the people who have donated financially to help Misiafa survive.
According to the mother, her son needs NZ$35,000 for treatment in NZ which is why they are asking the people for financial assistance through these difficult times as they are doing everything they can to save their son.
"We are so moved and overwhelmed with the support and love shown this week towards our boy. We can never thank each and everyone enough- from the doctors and nurses, the faifeau and prayer warriors, the blood donors, the carers, our families and friends, the list goes on. Fa'afetai fa'afetai fa'afetai tele lava," the parents said on Saturday morning as they took their son to Auckland.
"Misiafa will be MedEvac this morning (Saturday) to Auckland, NZ. He is in very critical condition. We ask you to please continue to pray for our son."
The 12-year-old boy's parents said they still believe and will always that God will heal their son from the critical illness he is facing through the amazing help from their families and the community.
Misiafa is the eldest of two children and his parents said they would do anything they could to help save their son.
The Give a Little and GoFundMe page that was made for Misiafa is still available on Facebook for anyone willing to help so that the parents can reach the amount needed for his treatment in NZ.
