Toese arrested with seven others

A man wanted by police in connection with a violent incident at the Faleolo International Airport was apprehended on Thursday night, following an intensive search.
Toese Tuuaga, the primary suspect in the case was taken into custody after police received reports from members of the public.
The arrest, confirmed by Police Commissioner Auapa'au Logoitino Filipo, also led to the detention of seven other individuals believed to have assisted Tuuaga’s evasion.
These seven individuals will face formal charges for allegedly harbouring the suspect.
Tuuaga, however, was not only wanted for the incident at the airport but also for an outstanding warrant related to another unrelated case.
The Police Commissioner confirmed that Tuuaga would be remanded in custody for this prior matter, and further charges could be forthcoming, particularly concerning the Faleolo Airport incident.
The airport altercation, which sparked a public outcry, led to heightened security measures at Faleolo International Airport, including vehicle checks at the entrance. These security checks were later deemed unlawful and were subsequently discontinued. Commissioner Auapa'au extended his gratitude to the public for their valuable assistance in locating and apprehending Tuuaga.
According to police reports, Tuuaga was allegedly involved in a violent brawl at the airport where he threatened bystanders with an unregistered pistol. The firearm has since been seized by authorities and is now in police custody.
Tuuaga faces serious charges, including possession of an unlawful weapon, evading police, and additional charges related to the airport incident.
As investigations continue, police are expected to lay more charges as more evidence comes to light. The public’s vigilance and timely reporting have played a key role in bringing the suspect to justice, as authorities continue to address the rising concern over public safety at major transport hubs like the airport.
