Three fishermen rescued at Falealupo
Three fishermen from Falealupo were lucky to have been rescued Monday morning after their fishing vessel sank at Falealupo.
Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority Assistant Commissioner Matofai Mata'u Esau Lotu said their team at Asau Fire Station were able to assist in the rescue of the three fishermen with the help of the police at Asau and Tuasivi.
The FESA is continuing with their investigations of the incident while thanking the efforts of the police and village members who were present at the time the boat sank.
Matofai said it was lucky that this happened during the day because if it were night it would be very hard to rescue these fishermen.
Police Commissioner Auapa'au Logoitino Filipo was unavailable for a comment about the incident.
However, Matofai sent out a clear message to all fishermen to be alert and adhere to marine weather warnings.
"I know that most families depend on fishing for a living, but our safety should be our priority especially when it comes to bad weather conditions, it is just not safe to go fishing," Matofai said.
"There were a lot of lives taken in the past because of fishing in bad weather conditions and rough seas and it is a wake-up call for all fishermen to look at."
Matofai said all three men were back with their families safely.
