Considered one of the oldest colleges established in Samoa, Leulumoega Fou College is preparing to celebrate its 135th anniversary since the school was established.

Director for Christian Congregation of Churches Samoa Education Director Rosita Esera said Leulumoega Fou College was first established at a place called "Maauga" at Nu'uausala in Nofoalii.

It was shifted to Leulumoega Fou later on and was named Leulumoega Fou College.

Mrs Esera said this was a milestone for the school.

"This college as far as I know is the oldest school in Samoa and it's worth a celebration to commemorate the many years the college has served the past and present students and mostly ancestors who have passed on," she said.

Mrs Esera said the planning of this celebration started last year to consider how long the celebration will be.

"The celebration will be done in May and the date is not confirmed yet," Mrs Esera said.

"A new monument and walkways to connect one school building to another are to be opened during that one day celebration," Mrs Esera revealed.

She said there were meetings between the Principal, teachers and also the parents to plan this celebration and all three colleges will be participating.

"There will be a special thanksgiving prayer service that day and so as entertainments from our three colleges, Leulumoega Fou, Nu'uausala and Malua Fou College," she said.

Mrs Esera confirmed that the initial planning of this celebration was supposed to be longer but then everything depends on the budget the school has and so as the support from the parents of the students attending the school.

"The Old Pupils Association is not as active as they were before and that's another reason we decided to have a one day celebration as a thanksgiving of the many years Leulumoega Fou College have helped many people in the past 135 years," Mrs Esera said.

She said Leulumoega Fou College according to it's history was established way before any college and the school was able to educate many people in those days before the curricular schools were set up.

Leulumoega Fou currently enrolled more than 500 students from year nine to year 12.

Leulumoega Fou opened as a trades school in 1890. It focused on producing tradesmen and was well attended by students from across the South Seas London Missionary Society network. Many students progressed to the Seminary school, others remained in the church working on establishing printers in Tuvalu, Rarotonga and Kiribati.
