Flooded fords, fallen power lines and trees, damaged signboards and in some cases, damages to property and residential structures were the result of the storm-like weather experienced on Sunday morning.

While schools were supposed to be closed, some parents in rural areas had not been informed of the closure.

A team from Samoa Observer inspected the damages along the East Coast Road on Monday morning. While many debris had been cleared from the road, the landslide at Solosolo covered both lanes. Only one lane was accessible.

By the afternoon, the Land Transport Authority had cleared the road.

King Construction completed the clearance work at Leusoalii while the landslide at Fagaloa was yet to be cleared by its contractor on Monday morning. The surrounding of the new market being built at Savalalo has also been taken down by the strong winds.

For the town area, the traffic lights in front of the police station were not working but contractors were present on the scene and were fixing it. Clearance work in front of the Government Building along Beach Road also took place.

The Land Transport Authority provided timely updates on work progress in villages around Upolu. To advise the public on which areas to avoid and which areas have been cleared for use.

Vata Aliaii of Siusega described Sunday as scary.

"I thought there was a cyclone. I checked the weather updates and it said it was a system if some kind. The winds were howling and there was no power," he said.

"I realise that it is very important to always be prepared for such disasters. Lucky it did not last long."

Morgan Viliamu of Solosolo had made a trip to Apia on Sunday to bring his mother to the hospital.

"We were unable to return home on Sunday night. We went to my cousin's place in Magiagi. It was a reminder to all of us that mother nature can be unpredictable," he said.

"On our return, we stopped at many places because of the landslides and there were some fords which were flooded."

Taxi driver Junior Uale said the bad weather disrupted his Sunday business.

"I drive my taxi on Friday but the weather was so bad that I gave up around 4 pm Sunday. I could not see the road. I hope there were no accidents," he said.

Samoa Meteorological Office has advised that the unsettled weather conditions were transitioning south of Samoa as a ridge of high pressure and favourable conditions moved into forecast areas. Samoa's weather forecast indicates improving weather conditions for the remainder of the week.

The heavy rain warning, flood warning, marine warning, and wind advisory were still valid as of Monday. The weather office in their latest report stated that the heavy clouds and storms were slowly moving away to the South, and the milder weather was entering. There will be a few showers on Wednesday, but the sun will be mostly shining brightly and covered by light winds from the East of the Matā’upolu.

The office also confirmed that there was no cyclone at this time, but the rain and strong winds can bring flash floods, landslides, and hazards to vulnerable areas.
