Gautavai gets a new cell tower
Digicel Samoa launched its new cell tower in Gautavai Savaii this week, reinforcing its commitment to expanding connectivity across the big island.
It is the first time for such a tower to be rolled out in Savaii. Digicel Samoa wanted to ensure that residents and businesses had access to greater connectivity.
Digicel Samoa Chief Executive Officer Karl Vizvary said the new tower was an investment in bringing fast connectivity and internet access.
"Digicel Samoa is focused on Savaii and this new tower in Gautavai is just the beginning of a broader investment plan to bring fast, reliable, and seamless connectivity to the island. We are dedicated to ensuring that Savaii enjoys a great quality of mobile and data services. This launch marks the first step in a long-term commitment, with more towers to follow," he said.
"The Gautavai tower will provide critical 4G LTE coverage to over 1,000 residents, allowing for improved mobile voice and data connectivity. With Savaii’s growing economy, thriving tourism industry, and strong community networks, enhanced connectivity will enable local businesses, farmers, students, and families to stay connected and take advantage of new opportunities.
"Digicel Samoa is committed to delivering digital inclusion for all Samoans. We recognise the essential role that connectivity plays in driving social and economic progress."
The investment in Savaii reflected Digicel's mission to connect the unconnected, providing reliable, high-speed mobile and internet services to empower communities. Also to support economic development and enhance everyday life.
The launch was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the Office of the Regulator, the Electric Power Corporation and members of the village.
