Opposition Leader Tuilaepa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi has expressed his anticipation regarding the possibility of another vote of no confidence in parliament, this time by the leader and chairman of the Fa'atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) party La'auli Leuatea Schmidt.

During his weekly press conference, Tuilaepa raised concerns about the lack of clarity regarding the grounds for the proposed motion.

According to Tuilaepa, members of the FAST party loyal to La'auli have already reached out to some members of his party, seeking their support for the upcoming no-confidence motion. 

However, Tuilaepa emphasised that his party would not lend its support to any motion without fully understanding the basis behind it. 

"But we will not support anything we are uncertain about," Tuilaepa remarked. "We need to know what the grounds are and who the vote of no confidence is aimed at. So we are going to wait and see if the vote will happen and what their intentions are."

Tuilaepa also commented on why he thinks La'auli and other members of the party objected to their motion of no confidence on Tuesday, after they had been vocal that they have no confidence towards Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata'afa's leadership. 

"I understand why La'auli and other members of the FAST party had objected to our motion. He wanted to pass all the amendments before parliament. Fiame doesn’t know that all these new amendments will benefit La'auli because these are all the things he had promised his supporters," Tuilaepa explained.

The Opposition Leader further weighed in on the current political leadership, suggesting that La'auli and Fiame should step down. 

"The other one broke the law and has been charged by police while the other one is continuing in her position unlawfully," Tuilaepa stated, hinting at his view that both figures should resign from their respective positions.
