Manslaughter accused evades court
A man who was supposed to be sentenced in October last year for the charge of manslaughter is still on the run as he has not been produced in court.
Fialelei Vaifale Sepetaio, 21 of Samalaeulu and Vaiusu was supposed to be sentenced by Chief Justice Satiu Simativa Perese in October of last year.
His non-appearance led to a warrant of arrest issued by the court.
The matter was again called before Chief Justice Satiu on Monday for sentencing but the defendant did not appear before the court.
Defence counsel Alex Su'a was asked by Chief Justice Satiu about the defendant's whereabouts. Mr Su'a replied that a warrant of arrest was issued in October last year for not appearing in court and he had not had any contact from his client.
The prosecution was asked for an update on the warrant issued for Sepetaio. The prosecution told the court that they would update the court in the next call as they had to check on the status of warrant of arrest.
Chief Justice Satiu then postponed the matter to 10 February for the prosecution to confirm if the warrant of arrest was executed or not.
