No schools from Samoa or any other country have been invited to perform at this year's ASB Polyfest as questions have arisen regarding the inclusion of international schools in this year's celebrations, especially in light of the event's 50th anniversary.

An inquiry into the participation of schools from Samoa has led to some clarifications about the festival's framework and its focus.

In an interview with the Director of the ASB Polyfest Seiuli Terry Leo-Mauu,  it was confirmed that no schools from Samoa or other overseas institutions have been invited to perform at this year's event.

This clarification came to light when ideas about potential overseas participation were explored. Although the opportunity was discussed, the director made it clear that no formal invitations had been issued.

"ASB Polyfest is first and foremost an Auckland secondary schools event and in the past when visiting schools from the Pacific have attended, they would put a formal request in," stated Seiuli.

Further adding to the inquiry, there were questions raised regarding Don Bosco College, whose principal indicated they were unaware of any arrangements for a Samoan group to travel overseas for the Polyfest.

It was highlighted that although Don Bosco was previously mentioned as a potential participant, no official invitation or arrangement had been confirmed.

Looking ahead, the excitement surrounding the 50th anniversary of the ASB Polyfest is palpable, yet the current status of confirmed Samoan group participation remains unclear. Registrations for schools to partake in the 2025 Polyfest are still open, with final numbers set to be determined after the closing date on 28 February.

With its rich history and tradition of showcasing diverse cultural performances, the ASB Polyfest remains a vital platform for young Pasefika students and a celebration of heritage.
