Father Peter ready to serve the Lord
The newly ordained priest Father Peter Ahn Vu Niguyen is ready to serve God's flock through his calling after he was ordained at the Sinamoga Catholic Church on Saturday.
A Vietnamese national, Fr Peter started working in Samoa in 2019 at Don Bosco Technical College, Alafua and Don Bosco College in Salelologa, Savaii.
Reminiscing on his days in Samoa, he said it was a wonderful experience, and he is grateful for the love and support shown to him by the Samoan community and his brothers in Samoa.
"I started this journey in 2007 when I was still a student at the University. My friend introduced me to the Salesian Brotherhood and so I followed. It's been a wonderful journey, sometimes I struggle but I thank God for blessing me with the people who support me and guide me on the right track. Even here in Samoa, the people help me a lot, especially with my vocation," he said.
"For the first year I was in Samoa, I was struggling with the language. But the language of love by the people made me part of their aiga (family). So it was indeed a blessing for me. The Samoan life here, they are very friendly, they support me in every way they can."
The Vietnamese priest believes that being a priest is not the challenge, it's being a good priest. During his time at the Don Bosco schools in Samoa, he was able to encounter youths and a lot of young people.
"The young ones have a lot of talent. It has been a wonderful time with them. Acknowledging everyone who helped me through this calling. Thank you to my friends and families who made it and my loved ones who were watching from the live. Finally, reached my dream. Can't wait to serve the Lord through my calling."
The principal celebrant was Archbishop Mosese Vitolio Tui with other priests from the Salesian community and the Archdiocese of Samoa. The choir from St John Bosco parish Sinamoga sang the hymns for the service.
Staff from both Don Bosco's schools were also present at the mass to witness the ordination of Father Peter, along with the Vietnamese community.
