Avele dux knows road ahead is not smooth

It was a special day for 140 Year 13 students of Avele College as they bid farewell to the school and took the next step in their lives.

Among them was 18-year-old Israel Tasi Pritchard, the Dux for 2024 at Avele College.

Israel wants to become an Information Technology professional in the future. He knows the task ahead is not an easy one as the IT field keeps evolving.

With his faith in God and guidance from his parents, he is sure that this dream is attainable.

"One of my favourite subjects is computers, and I use them for everything at home. This has inspired me to pursue a career in information technology, and I may have to move up to a higher level next year," said Israel.

"In addition to being able to support my parents, I hope to have a successful career in the future and earn enough money for my own needs and desires.

"I am grateful to the Lord for my parents, who opened my eyes to the world. I am pleased to report that I have made them proud of my accomplishments this year.

Like many students, Israel's journey to finishing secondary school was not filled with roses. There were thorns as well.

"I now thank God for everything he has done for me, even if I have encountered difficulties along the way," he said.

"I was among the boys that went in gangs and caused trouble. That would have affected my academic path, but thanks to God, I have found my true self and created something that will make my parents proud of me.

"I would advise every student at Avele College to put God first in all they do and to never lose sight of the fact that God is still alive and can accomplish everything they set their minds to, provided they are sincere in their studies and put in the necessary effort."

After the hurdles he has crossed, Israel realises that there is no such thing as attending school to unwind and socialise with friends. He said those things come third and fourth.

He believes to become successful, God is always first and second is the dedication that is needed, hard work and sweat.
