Sula ready to rock the stage
Miss Samoa Fa’afafine contestant Sara Sula Uelese is ready to rock the stage on Friday night at the Miss Samoa Fa'afafine Pageant.
Sula is one of the six contestants vying for the title. Salani is from Lauli’i, Leusoali’i, Savaia Lefaga, Sa’anapu, and Salani Falealili.
Sula is self-employed decorating God-given skills to decorate weddings, churches function, funerals, and other occasions.
"A Samoan designer who has been in business for a very long time is sponsoring me, and I am competing in this pageant to highlight their skills and the elegance of their creations," said Sula.
"In addition to wanting to help the Fa'afafine community in Samoa, my goal for this pageant is to be able to assist on all occasions. I'm working so hard to be able to contribute to our nation and its citizens.
"Since my adventure has only just begun, there aren't many challenges at this point, but I am grateful to my family and friends for their support as I compete in the Miss Samoa pageants."
Sula's family was all the support needed.
In addition to taking care of parents at home, Sula Uelese worked from home making plastic flowers for decorations as needed for the business.
"This year, I wanted to participate in the pageant to support the Fa'afafine and Fa'afatama association as well as the community," said Sula.
"I feel the two communities continue to be targets of discrimination and do not have equal opportunities when it comes to employment."
