Alleged killer told to seek lawyer
A man who is alleged to have brutally murdered another by using a rock was told to look for a lawyer as he was remanded further by the Supreme Court in Mulinuu on Monday.
Seme Timoteo, 24, from Levi, Saleimoa is charged with murder, manslaughter and armed with a dangerous weapon.
Timoteo was banned from his village after the incident last month. He is alleged to have killed a 40-year-old man from the same village using a rock.
It is alleged that the accused and the victim were drinking alcohol when a conversation turned into an argument and resulted into a physical altercation.
It is also alleged Timoteo hid the victim's body in a banana plantation and covered it with banana leaves. The body was discovered three days later.
Timoteo made his first appearance in court and was unrepresented.
Judge Justice Fepuleai Ameperosa Roma postponed the matter to 25 November for him to find a lawyer. He was told that the charges against him were very serious and he needed to be represented.
He was also told that if he could not afford a lawyer, he could apply for legal aid.
Timoteo was remanded in custody. He was told to seek the help of prison officials at Tanumalala Prison to assist him in finding a lawyer before next Monday.
