Fire damages Alafua property
A fire blazed through four of the five flats at Plantation House in Alafua on Monday evening with firefighters managing to stop the spread of the fire to adjacent properties.
According to University of the South Pacific students, the fire started after 6 pm and soon spread.
“It is really hard to say where the fire started but it was pretty big,” said a student.
Samoa Fire and Emergency Services arrived at the scene soon after they received the call and worked tirelessly to douse the flames.
A family member of the owner said the fire started from the back of the property, the exact cause is still not known.
The owner of the property was still in a state of shock when approached by the newspaper. She politely declined to say anything on Monday night.
Plantation House is located opposite USP’s Alafua Campus and next to the Aoga Fiamalamalama Special School.
Electric Power Corporation staff were also quick to the scene to switch off electricity and prevent damage to the power lines.
It is believed that the elderly owner of the property was home and helped out by a family member when the fire broke out.
The Fire Commissioner Tanuvasa Petone Mauga said the SFESA team will be on the scene to investigate the cause of the fire on Tuesday.
