Police were able to recover the body of four-year-old Apa Taufoe bringing an end to a two-day operation in Falefa.

The child was allegedly pushed into the waterfall and believed to have drowned on Wednesday.

Police confirmed that the child's body was recovered by their divers around 8 am on Friday.

It was a sad moment for the family. Pictures of Apa's parents in tears and clinging to the child's lifeless body have been shared on social media.

A day earlier, Apa's father, Taufoe Faitoto'a told Samoa Observer that losing a child was a harrowing experience.

He said he had not slept nor had been eating since his son drowned. The two younger children of the family also jumped into the waterfall to save their brother on Wednesday.

Luckily, a passerby jumped in to save the two-year-old and the one-year-old.

Mr Faototo'a thanked God that his two younger were saved otherwise they were looking at the loss of their three children.

"I've been searching for my dearest son with tears all the time hoping that his body will be found," Mr Faitoto'a said on Thursday before his son was found Friday morning.

"I miss him so much. He was good at doing chores I told him to do. His funny funny personality will be missed every day, especially when we are about to go to bed," he added.

Apa is the second of four siblings and Mr Faitoto'a said his son was a responsible older sibling to his younger brother and sister.

White Sunday for the Faitoto'a family this year will be a very sorrowful one.

"I will miss seeing him saying his Bible verse on Sunday," Mr Fatoto'a said with tears streaming.
