A new coat for the old rails
Road contractors equipped with paint brushes to colour road rails are putting the icing on the cake to the decorations from the villages to welcome the Commonwealth delegations this month.
Driving from the Faleolo airport to Apia is a sight to behold with different designs put in place as the nation gears up for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
Although the beautification initiative gave each village a facelift, a majority of road rails were dirty and worn out.
This is where the road contractors responsible for the maintenance of government assets stepped in this week to do their part to support the village efforts.
A concerned citizen wrote to the Samoa Observer questioning who was responsible for maintaining the government reserves and should do their work to support the villages' beautification work.
Paialii Migi and Sapati Atoaga from Ott Construction were in several areas this week to fix damaged rails and add a fresh coat of paint.
The men tasked with the maintenance said they started from Malololelei earlier in the week and from there to Vaimoso and Tiavi to paint the road rails.
A resident of Vaimoso said she was happy to see the road contractors painting the road rails adding beauty to what the villagers have already put up.
Driving into Fugalei, the Public Service Association (PSA) burnt building which was described as an eyesore was finally demolished and cleared this week.
Down at the town clock, men were working on painting the Chan Mow building and every other business was also doing their part to clean up.
