Haylani Pearl Kuruppu was crowned Miss Universe Samoa at the Orator Hotel on Friday evening marking her upcoming participation in the Miss Universe pageant in November in Mexico.

With the heartfelt words, "Go with the hearts and the blessings of Samoa," Reverend Siaosi Salesulu encouraged Haylani to embrace her role as a powerful voice for change.

Reverend Salesulu reminded Haylani that those who submit to a higher calling will be elevated. He emphasised the importance of her platform and urged her to leverage it to drive meaningful change for her community.

Leiataua Jerry Brunt, Director of Miss Universe Samoa, shared exciting news about this year’s pageant, revealing a remarkable 130 entries.

For the first time, the competition has lifted age, height, and weight restrictions, reinforcing its commitment to global women empowerment.

From the initial pool, a top 30 will be selected, followed by a top 12, culminating in the announcement of the winner.

This re-entry into the Miss Universe arena is particularly significant, as Samoa has not participated in over 30 years.

Deputy Prime Minister Tuala Iosefo Ponifasio blessed Haylani’s journey, highlighting the importance of women representing their nations on such prestigious platforms.

He recognised the opportunity this provided to showcase Samoa as a premier tourist destination and affirmed the government's unwavering support for initiatives that elevate women's empowerment.

Tuala praised Haylani's commitment to her role as an ambassador for Samoa, reminding her that as she steps onto the Miss Universe stage, she carries the hopes and dreams of her people. "You embody the grace and resilience of the Samoan spirit, and your dedication to our nation is commendable," he said.

The crowning moment was graced by Minister for Women, Community and Social Development, Mulipola Anarosa Ale-Molioó, who poignantly reminded Haylani to honour her roots. "Blessed is the womb that birthed you," she stated, encouraging her to always remember the support of her mother and the culture that shaped her.

Haylani expressed her pride in representing Samoa and the vast opportunities this platform presents to promote her homeland and inspire the next generation.

"My voice is not just my own; it represents the aspirations of our people and the dreams of every young girl in Samoa," she stated passionately.

Haylani aims to inspire future generations to dream boldly and stay true to their cultural identities, believing that their potential is limitless.
