There are now two ways about it. Manu Samoa needs to beat the Ikale Tahi in the Pacific Nations Cup match on Friday to stay in contention to win the title.

According to head coach Mase Mahonri Schwalger. the Manu Samoa team is prepared and confident.

“These guys want to perform well for the past players and the present,” said Mase.

According to Mase, the match against Tonga is significant because of the longstanding history between Samoa and Tonga. The 100th anniversary of Samoan rugby adds an extra layer of significance to the match, as the players are eager to showcase their skills and passion in honour of the milestone.

When asked about the pressure of performing in front of former players, Mase expressed confidence in the players' determination. The team is focused on delivering a commendable performance, especially as they prepare to compete in front of their people.

Regarding the game plan, Mase emphasised the importance of physicality, stressing the need for a strong showing on both the offensive and defensive fronts.

“The boys have to do everything in the right way. There's a lot of work going on in the last couple of days. I'm looking forward to how the boys are going to put it out there tomorrow,” said Mase.

Extensive preparation and hard work have been hallmarks of the team's approach leading up to the match, and their dedication is expected to manifest in their performance on the field. Reflecting on a recent game against Fiji, Mase acknowledged the need for discipline from the Manu.

“We had that game where we would give it away because of the discipline. But at the moment, the boys have moved forward,” said Mase.

“We can't do what we did in the past. We still have an opportunity to progress in this tournament. If we win this one, we'll play Japan in the semis,” added Mase.

It costs $10 for general entrance to the game and starts at 5 pm at Apia Park.
