Ambassador Fei visits Campus of Hope
The Chinese Ambassador to Samoa Fei Mingxing had an opportunity to find out for himself how effective the Chinese classes were for the children at the Campus of Hope.
Apart from funding and medical assistance, The Chinese Embassy has also provided Chinese language classes for the children staying at the Campus of Hope.
Mr. Fei paid a visit to the shelter last early this week.
He said it was more than a shelter facility but a home.
This was the first visit for Mr. Fei since taking on the role at the beginning of the year. This was an opportunity for him to learn about the history of Samoa Victim Support Group and how the shelter facility fills the gap in the support services available to women and children victims of violence.
Mr. Fei spent time talking to the children in Chinese. He was particularly impressed with how students attending the Chinese language classes are fluent during their conversation.
He encouraged the children to learn as much as they could while under SVSG’s shelter care, as part of their rehabilitation programs, and in preparation for their return back to the community.
“You have to be happy. My visit to the Campus and seeing you has made me very happy,” he told the children.
SVSG President Siliniu Lina Chang acknowledged the relationship between China and the SVSG through the government of Samoa.
In April this year, one of the caretakers at the Campus attended a seminar on Campus Safety and Emergency Aid for Child Injuries, held in China.
During the inaugural SVSG Online Fundraising in July 2023, the Ambassador of China in Samoa donated substantially to the fundraising, to support the salaries of the workers as well as the operation costs of running the Campus of Hope shelter facility.
