E.P.C. investigates electrocution

The Electric Power Corporation is investigating a recent incident involving a linesman who was electrocuted and has asked the public for their support. 

A press statement issued by the corporation on Thursday appealed to the public for support noting the incident where one of their linesman was seriously injured during an emergency outage. 

“We want to clarify that our injured colleague is currently in the hospital in stable condition though remain in a critical state…,” the E.P.C. stated. 

“The safety and well-being of our staff are our utmost priorities and we are committed to conducting a thorough investigation to address and understand what happened. 

“Your compassion and understanding during this period mean a great deal to us.” 

The E.P.C. said in consideration for the family of the linesman they ask that the public refrain from sharing videos and commentaries about the incident as they navigate through this challenging time. 

“We ask that you join us in uplifting our injured colleague in your thoughts and prayers. 

“Together as a community we can support each other and work towards ensuring the safety and protection of everyone involved.”

The linesman was reportedly electrocuted on Tuesday afternoon while working on a powerline a few meters from the Moto’otua National Hospital. 

Sources at the hospital told the Samoa Observer the E.P.C. senior staff was in a coma for more than a day. He is still in the Intensive Care Unit. E.P.C. staff have been in and out of the hospital visiting their injured colleague.
