Avele College's 100th birthday officially opens
Hundreds of students, old pupils local and abroad, and government leaders gathered at the Avele College compound on Tuesday evening to celebrate the official opening of the school's 100th anniversary.
Head of State Tuimalealiifano Va'aleto'a Sualauvi II's said in his remarks that milestones and days like these are rare with an urge to the gathering to remember God as they kick off this significant celebration in their milestone.
"Avele, in case you forget God now that you found success, now that you have found wisdom, strength, and wealth, and may you remember the theme of this day, shall no one with strength be proud of his strength, shall no one with wisdom be proud of his wisdom, but be proud that it is from God and glory be to God," he emphasized.
"Also days like these we look back at our journey in life, when we go through life's trials and challenges, only God is our source of strength."
Celebrating alongside the Avele pioneers, old pupils, and students, and staff of the school, the Head of State added that in his college life, he had always wanted to attend Avele College but his parents' dreams for him were different.
The chairman of the Avele College Old Pupils Association (A.C.O.P.A.), Afamasaga Leiataua Faleata spoke on behalf of all the old and current pupils of the school to declare the celebration officially open.
"The celebration of the century is the establishment of Avele College reminding us of God's love and his faithfulness," he said.
"We also express our gratitude to his highness, HOS, for gracing our celebration with your presence adding much value to our celebration. It is with great pride and joy as a former student that I welcome you all to the celebration of Avele College's 100th anniversary.
"Today we gather to celebrate a remarkable milestone in the history of the school.
"It's one hundred years of growth, and we find ourselves very fortunate to be part of this milestone, from humbling beginnings inspirations and opportunities for children from all corners of Samoa. It is a place where knowledge and dreams are realised.
"Quality education has always been paramount here since Avele's establishment. It prepares the students with the knowledge, skills and critical thinking for the future.
"As we celebrate this milestone, let us appreciate all those who have paved the way for Avele, the founders who paved the way for the school."
In 1950, this college was the first to bring in students from the Pacific including Cook Islands, Tuvalu, Niue, and, Tokelau, and today, they celebrate together as one voice, one heart, and one family.
On that note, the Cook Islands King's Representative, Sir Tom Masters, and his wife Lady Tuaine also attended the official opening together with Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa and members of the Cabinet and the diplomatic corp.
Old students from all around the globe especially in New Zealand, Australia, and the United States are also in Samoa to mark the celebration. Some of the old students include ministers of the Cabinet, leaders of ministries and other organisations, as well as churches.
A parade will be held on Wednesday as part of the celebration.
