The People’s Republic of China’s ambassador to Samoa Fei Mingxing paid a special visit to the Samoa Observer office in Vaitele on Thursday afternoon.

Ambassador Fei arrived in Samoa on 1 January 2024 and had always made known his intent to visit the office.

The ambassador is no stranger to the region having previously served in Fiji and Australia.

He met with Samoa Observer’s publisher Muliaga Jean Malifa and Editor Shalveen Chand to discuss ways they could provide more awareness for Samoans on the work done by China in the nation and the region.

He revealed that China after the construction of the new Samoa Police Academy would support the construction of three new schools.

He also announced the arrival of a new set of doctors from China who will be based in Samoa and support the local health system. This aid programme has been running for a few years where Chinese medical experts are attached to the local hospitals.

Ambassador Fei also announced that a team of Samoan dancers would be headed to China to promote the Samoan culture.

The ambassador said he looked forward to working in Samoa, especially as the diplomatic relationship between the two nations would soon reach 50 years.

Muliaga thanked Ambassador Fei for the visit.

Mr. Chand urged him to continue writing to the Samoa Observer as he has contributed a few opinion pieces.
