Public continues to pray for peace

The public has asked the government and politicians to humble themselves and focus on the development of Samoa.

They believe that being united is the key to a beautiful Samoa. This newspaper sought the opinions of the public on their thoughts on the ongoing political crisis.

Tautalaga Anea said at this point he does not know what exactly is happening in the political world, but one thing is for sure he wants Samoa to go back to its foundation.

"I actually don't know what to believe anymore, or who to listen to. We've all seen and heard on the news and social media platforms, right after an announcement from our Prime Minister, Laauli makes his," he said.

"All I'm asking our leaders is that there is no harm in seeking forgiveness and working things out. Your ongoing division has a great impact on us, the people who voted for each one of you in parliament.

"I also want to ask our people to continue praying for our leaders, no one is perfect. They are also humans, they are bound to make mistakes. Let's hope that this will pass soon. We have been advertising 'Beautiful Samoa' and now people see all this."

Anaya Vui who just turned 21 early this year said it is difficult to understand what's going on in Samoa, as there is a lot of misinformation going around. She has seen a lot of different interpretations of what the crisis is about from different people on social media.

"Next year will be the first time I will be able to cast a vote and make my voice heard through the ballot. But as for the situation that Samoa is in right now, I don't actually know what's going on," she said.

"All I know is Laauli has been charged and PM Fiame is standing by the law. I've seen a lot of posts by a lot of people explaining the Constitution but I don't really trust it. But my only hope is for Samoa to return to being the greatest destination for the world."

A lot of people shared their thoughts but did not wish to be named. Some of them have called on the government to set aside their differences and unite to make Samoa a better place. The people are calling for reconciliation and for all members of parliament to unite as their differences have also caused division in some families and villages.

All eyes are now set on the first parliament meeting which is scheduled to convene on Tuesday and will foresee what's next for Samoa's Government.

With the HRPP holding 18 seats, the party still has considerable influence on the outcome of this unfolding political situation.

Parliament will convene on Tuesday and there is a likelihood of a vote of no confidence being put on the floor. Other than that, the parliament will also have to debate on the amendments on the electoral act.
