Call made to drive carefully

Two men were taken to hospital after a vehicle crash over the weekend showing the need to be vigilant on the roads as the number of cars continues to increase.

A Toyota Landcruiser and a station wagon collided over the weekend at Lalovaea. Witnesses claimed that an elderly man was the driver of the bigger vehicle.

Witnesses told the Samoa Observer that two people were swiftly transported by an ambulance crew on Friday afternoon.

"The old man indicated to take a left turn to head up on Lalovaea Street but he didn't, he kept driving straight forward, hence why the other car exiting the same road decided to continue travelling into the traffic," said an eyewitness.

"I was shocked when we heard the screeching tyres and the loud bang, and thought someone might've died, I hope they are in good condition because that collision was any drivers nightmare."

Another witness who lives around the area stated that the incident happened right behind her vehicle when she was heading home after leaving the Chick-a-licious restaurant just opposite the intersection where the accident occurred.

"I jumped when I heard the loud noise from behind, thinking I was hit by a car, only to turn around and witness the two vehicles collide, never in my life have I experienced such a scare," she said.

"Fortunately, no person or child was walking around the area when it happened. If it was me, the scenes would've been even more ugly."

According to witnesses, a misunderstanding of the direction of the vehicles was most likely the root factor of the cause.

While the eyewitness says that it was fortunate no life was lost, they believe that the accident is a wake-up call for all motorists in Samoa.
