The much anticipated $3.36 million tala from the second $51 million tala grant was distributed to 21 constituencies on Thursday.
The funds, designated for supporting District Councils were given during a signing ceremony at the Ministry of Women, Community, and Social Development's Tooa Salamasina Hall.
While awaiting finalisation of the policy for the project's second phase, Mulipola Anarosa Ale-Molio'o, Minister of Women, Community, and Social Development, confirmed that the initial $160,000 tala grant disbursed this week would primarily fund administrative operations of the district offices.
Representatives from the 21 district councils expressed joy as they signed their contracts.
Fofogalilo Ariu Toleafoa Talitimu from the Fa'asaleleaga No.4 constituency expressed relief, stating that the funds would support the long-overdue payment of district office staff, who had been working without compensation since the completion of the first $1 million tala grant.
He outlined plans to utilise the funds for climate resilience projects, such as repairing sea walls within the constituency, and to prioritising education and health initiatives.
Similarly, representatives from Lotofaga welcomed the commencement of their second $1 million tala grant.
Tupuola Koki assured that their first grant had been efficiently managed to cover staff salaries until the arrival of the second grant.
Fuiono Tenina Crichton, Member of Parliament for Falealupo, echoed the sentiments of readiness, emphasising the community's eagerness to commence work on their proposals upon receipt of the allocated funds.
The disbursement marks a significant step forward for these constituencies, enabling them to address vital operational needs and progress with planned projects to enhance community resilience and well-being.
In her address, she emphasised the importance of adhering to the requirements and processes for accessing the remaining $840,000 of funds.
These requirements include submitting Annual Reports to the Ministry by the end of the current month.
The Minister announced that the first installment of $420,000 will be disbursed by the end of March, contingent upon the submission of Annual Reports. Acquittals for using these funds must be submitted by the end of June.
