The Minister for Women, Community, and Social Development has been tasked with exploring opportunities on how the current Miss Samoa and Miss Pacific Islands can contribute to youth awareness programmes in Samoa.

These programmes aim to raise awareness about climate change and environmental preservation among the youth in Samoa.

The call was made by Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata'afa during a special meeting on Wednesday, with Miss Samoa, Moemoana Safa'ato'a Schwenke, who was crowned as the Miss Pacific Islands in Nauru a week ago.

The gathering took place in the Cabinet chambers during its regular weekly session. Representatives from the Samoa Tourism Authority and Onomea Production were present.

Fiame engaged in a conversation with Ms. Schwenke regarding her goals as the current Miss Samoa, during which Ms. Schwenke expressed her intention to raise awareness about the effects of climate change and the importance of preserving and nurturing natural resources.

She acknowledged her awareness of the dance classes organised by Ms. Schwenke through her Ta Fesilafa'i Creative and Performing Arts initiative, which has attracted numerous Samoan children.

It was then that P.M. Fiame turned to the Minister of M.W.C.S.D., Mulipola Anarosa Ale-Molio'o to explore any programmes that Miss Samoa could lead targeting the youths in Samoa.

The gathering also allowed Fiame to extend official congratulations and praise to Ms. Schwenke for her accomplishment in reclaiming the Miss Pacific Islands title.

She extended her congratulatory remarks to the Executive of Samoa Tourism Authority, Onomea production as well as Ms. Schwenke's parents and family who supported her at the regional pageant in Nauru.

Fiame emphasised that Ms. Schwenke exemplified "dignity" in representing all young women in Samoa at the regional pageant. She commended her for her bravery and her embodiment of the qualities of a Tama'ita'i Samoa.
