Avele College hall to cost $0.5m
Avele College's initiative for a new multipurpose Fale Samoa is anticipated to cost $500,000 and is set to be launched in June coinciding with its 100th anniversary.
Project manager and old student, Leiataualesa Lino Tagiilima said the proposed project will take place starting next week and so far they have been able to collect $124,000.
"The committee's goal is to be able to build a big multipurpose Samoan Fale and other houses or rooms that can be rented out for family functions or events and with whatever funds this may earn, we will have it kept aside for the ongoing maintenance of these buildings and whatever else might be needed," he said.
The Avele College Old Pupil Association (ACOPA) based in Wellington New Zealand donated $50,000 as a support fund for the aforementioned project for the school on Friday.
President of the ACOPA Wellington, Tunumafono Ken Ah Kuoi together with other association members handed over the cheque to the Cabinet Minister, Olo Fiti Vaai on Friday at the TATTE conference room.
The President said they wanted to take part and contribute towards the project intended for the celebration of the school's 100th anniversary and they will continue to offer a helping hand for more development.
The Minister of Works who is also a former student of Avele College was acknowledged for his unwavering support in taking the lead with mostly the school’s project planning.
The new multipurpose Fale Samoa will be built across from the school rugby field.
The school was first established by 24 teachers in 1923 and officially opened in June 1923. Originally an agricultural school school as an all-boys institution until 1996, when it welcomed the enrolment of girls.
