King Charles to stay at Sinalei

The Sinalei Resort in Siumu is most likely to be the official accommodation for His Majesty  King Charles III of the United Kingdom as part of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (C.H.O.G.M.) next October, Samoa Observer can reveal.

Special inspections were conducted by the Royal experts and security personnel last month.

In an interview with the Samoa Observer, owner of Sinalei, Tuatagaloa Joe Annandale confirmed that although they are currently starting preparations for the arrival of His Majesty, it will take them a lot more to prepare for the day. He said he was not the official authority to make a statement about the monarch's stay in Samoa and he was only stating what the resort had been doing.

"I would rather let you get official confirmation from the Prime Minister's Office. This morning (Monday) I am meeting with a representative of the British High Commission," he said.

"I can say that I have been informed that King Charles wants to stay here at Sinalei and as I said, we are meeting with the High Commissioner of Britain to Samoa at the resort to finalise arrangements.

"This means me, the family, and the resort will have a lot to prepare for if this pulls through. It's a great honour obviously but there's so much that I have to do to prepare for the occasion.

"But that's just my answer and there's nothing official from the Prime Minister Fiame herself or perhaps the High Commissioner of Britain to Samoa Gareth Hoar."

As one of the security criteria for hosting the monarch and the Head of the Commonwealth, Sinalei Resort will have to close at least one week before his arrival which Tuatagaloa confirmed.

He added that King Charles and his delegation booked out the whole resort and they were supposed to stay for two days.

"I think he will stay for two days but remember we have to close for security purposes just to be sure and then we remain closed for a few days after he leaves because the resort also has to prepare for normal guests," he said.

"And that's a busy season because during the meeting, we are busy with our guests and that's a few challenges for us, this is happening right when we are busy but we're closing the place off for at least a week before they get here.

"And of course, as far as I know, they are bringing their security officers and his staff because they are taking over the whole place."

According to Tuagataloa, they have also sought the assistance of the village for security purposes, by lending a hand in guarding outside of the resort mainly in the village for safety reasons in welcoming King Charles.

Asked whether his staff is ready to host and welcome King Charles with an outstanding welcoming performance, Tuatagaloa said "not yet" but they have time from now until his arrival to prepare.

The owner added that they have not approved a budget yet for the arrival of King Charles.
