School loses 200 students
The Manumalo Baptist School lost almost 200 students this year due to the number of reasons, according to principal Tasi Epati Sala.
She said there were 500 more students registered at the start of the year, but only 300 of them finished because of a variety of circumstances, including families having low income, relocating abroad, and switching schools.
She said this is something that needs to be addressed.
Meanwhile smiles, hugs and emotions of sweet accomplishment filled the atmosphere at the Manumalo Baptist School graduation on Thursday as 20 graduates received their certificates after years of perseverance.
Held at the Maota o Tupulaga Hall at Sogi, the graduation was a ceremony where many students took another step to their careers. Principal Tasi Epati Fata in her keynote address reminded the 2023 graduating class that this is not the end of their challenging journey.
Mrs. Fata spoke about the importance of the support system from parents throughout the whole year and acknowledged the hard work put in by the children in school.
"The class of 2023 will embark on an entirely different path, experience, and educational level next year, so work hard in your studies and give it your all,” she said. “This is not the end of your journey.”
“Additionally, I would like to express my gratitude to all of the parents for their support during the various school-related events we have held this year as well as for the arduous effort you have done to enroll your child in school.”
Out of the 20 graduates from Year Eight, only one made it to Samoa College after he passed the entrance exam.
Tasele Zion Malolua, a graduate of the final year, will represent Manumalo Baptist School and his family in Samoa College. He claimed that although there has been a genuine struggle, God has remained at his side.
“Even though I faced a lot of challenges along my journey, God has never abandoned me,” he said. “And I finally made it, I will be representing my school and my family in Samoa College next year.”
The aspiring Manumalo Baptist School student, Tasele Zion said: "You can be anything you want to be if you put your heart into it". That is his message to all the remaining students of the school who aspire to study and serve the school.
