A young man passionate about beauty and hairstyles is forging his way to becoming one of Samoa's top makeup artists and hair stylists.

However, in order to pursue his passion and dream job, Mose Feagaimalii Toomalatai opted to drop out of school. Initially, he worked as a hairstylist before he began applying cosmetics with the assistance of his friends.

"I was so passionate about being a hairdresser that I chose to give up on my education," he said in an interview. "My friends helped me transition from being a hair stylist to a makeup artist.

"I thus do cosmetics and hairstyles at the moment."

In the course of his career, Mr. Toomalatai received invitations to participate in the Miss Samoa pageants and the Malu o Aiga Fashion Show. These events provided him with an invaluable opportunity to learn from and be inspired by other artists.

"I was thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with renowned makeup artists and hair stylists when I received an invitation to participate as a hairstylist and makeup artist in the MOA Fashion Show and Miss Samoa pageants," he said.

“It was also a great experience for me as a beginner or a young artist and stylist because I got a chance to put my dreams into reality”.

Mr. Toomalatai said that he makes enough money as an artist to sustain his family and that he can use his skill to give people a fresh appearance.

"I am extremely appreciative of my talents because they allow me to support my family financially and give me the opportunity to give people new looks that brighten their day."

Now working at the Quality Island Cut in Apia, he is eager to assist young people with their hair and makeup because he thinks that if it helps him, it would benefit them as well.

The young artist also hopes that by sharing his experience, other young people who were not able to complete their academic journey will be motivated to use their talents in order to support themselves financially.
