Police unaware of Sataoa death
Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo says they have not received any reports of a teenager who was allegedly found dead near Sataoa Beach on Tuesday.
Samoa Observer can reveal that the family of the deceased did not contact the Police but took the body straight to the hospital.
Meanwhile, an attempt by the Samoa Observer for information from the family of the deceased was unsuccessful, they were unwilling to give any comment regarding the incident.
The deceased is presumed to be a 19-years-old and is believed to have slipped while rock fishing.
Lemaile Venu, a fisherman from the village told Samoa Observer that he was out fishing, and upon his return to shore he saw the body of the young man hovering over the edge of the coast at around 7 am on Tuesday morning.
“I was paddling back and I spotted something in the distance and I hurriedly paddled to it and took me by surprise that it was a person. I pulled him out of the sea and carried him to shore. He was bleeding from the mouth and nose when I found him” he said.
Mr Venu said he always sees the young man fishing around the same area he found him. He urged the family to report the incident to the police for a proper investigation to take place.
Meanwhile there reports of four deaths by drowning in October.
