A man, who was among 12 defendants linked to a hog-tied villager's case, has denied the charge of kidnapping a man and taking him away from his home.

The six matai and six untitled men of Lefagaoalii entered their not-guilty plea to all the charges in the Supreme Court.

Lawyer Alex Sua represented the men who appeared before Supreme Court Justice, Fepuleai Ameperosa Roma this week.

One of the 12 defendants, Aitauia Ioasa Lemau, 70, is facing more serious charges of attempted murder.

Excluding the matai, the other accused are Vaele Iosia Reupoamo, 75, Tauti Tiaka, 68, Toemago Pa’u Lasalo, 60, Lemana Nouata, 55, Ofisa Sitafao, 27, Vaa Alai, 41, Amiga Lagaaia, 30, Tomasi Samuelu, 24, Faavevela Lale, 27, Lemana Pene, 57, and Salapo Etene Uini, 61.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping, threat to do bodily harm, assault and armed with a dangerous weapon.

The men have been released on bail pending their hearing date.

According to the background of the case, the man who was hogtied by the villagers last month was due to his defiance of the villagers' orders.

The villagers then went to the complainant’s home in Lefagaoalii, got him tied up and carried him out of his house.
