Teuila shows growth in diaspora market: Fiame
Prime Minister, Fiame Naomi Mataafa commended the country and all who contributed to the success of this year's Teuila festivities and stressed that it has highlighted the growth in visitors from both the diaspora market and those visiting families and friends.
In her key remarks presented on Friday during the Miss Samoa float parade, Fiame acknowledged the organisers of events of the Teuila and the revival of traditional sports and entertainments, as well as all other activities during the week of Teuila.
"I believe it is important to note that this year's Teuila festival has effectively highlighted the growth in both the diaspora market as well as visiting friends and relatives," she said.
"For that reason I wish to acknowledge all the dance groups, sports teams, schools and families who travelled to be part of this year's festivities.
"I also wish to give recognition to all the community organisations for their participation in this year's activities, especially the various districts that have prepared the floats for the contestants for the Miss Samoa pageant 2023."
Following this year's Teuila success acknowledged by the Prime Minister, a survey not only in Samoa but also in New Zealand, Australia and online platforms is set to be conducted starting this month on ways to improve the next Teuila.
"During this festival week and in the upcoming weeks, the Samoa Tourism Authority is set to conduct an evaluation on the Teuila festival across Samoa and New Zealand and Australia and online platforms," Fiame explained.
The assessment aims to gather opinions and insights from local residents, the overseas diaspora and visitors.
"We are interested in understanding their perspectives on the festival's impact, it' benefits to local enterprises, suggestions for enhancement, and the viability of continuing the festival in its existing structure.
"Therefore I strongly encourage everyone to participate in this evaluation as your insights are invaluable in helping us shape and grow the Teuila festival for years to come.
"I can not emphasise enough how tourism is for our economy. As such, it is imperative that we consistently offer equality, hospitality, through our tali malo while also maintaining Samoa' cleanliness and natural beauty.
"We want to truthfully present our brand of Beautiful Samoa."
Meanwhile, this year's festivities, mainly traditional sports and entertainment, attracted not only visiting families last week but also tourists which were held at the Friendship Park.
