Samoa Government is reviewing the Teuila Festival with the Prime Minister encouraging the Samoan community near and far to share their opinions on what needs to be improved.

At the closing ceremony of the 33rd Teuila Festival, Fiame Naomi Mata'afa announced that the Samoa Tourism Authority (S.T.A.) is doing an evaluation of the Teuila Festival.

Fiame told the gathering in front of the Government Building that the commemoration of Teuila this year highlighted the growth in the diaspora market as well as visiting friends.

She also gave recognition to the different villages, district councils, community organisations, and dance groups from Samoa and abroad who all made this year's celebration a success.

"During this festival week and in the upcoming week, the Tourism Authority is set to conduct an evaluation on the Teuila festival across Samoa, New Zealand and Australia and online platforms," she said. "The assessment aims to gather opinions and insights from local residents, the diaspora and our visitors."

Fiame said they are interested in getting people's perspectives on the impact of the annual festival and areas that they think would improve the celebration every year.

"We are interested in understanding their perspective on the festival's impacts, its benefits to local enterprise, suggestions for enhancements, and the viability of continuing the festival in its existing structure.

"Therefore, I strongly encourage everyone to participate in this evaluation process as your insights are valuable in helping us shape the Teuila Festival for years to come.

"I cannot emphasise enough how crucial tourism is for our economy. As such, it is important that we consistently offer quality hospitality through our talimalo while also maintaining Samoa's cleanliness and natural beauty.

"We want to truthfully present our brand of Beautiful Samoa. Teuila is named after Samoa’s national plant, otherwise known as red ginger, which is used in abundance to make spectacular floral decorations around the islands during festival week."

First held in 1991, this vivacious festival is about celebrating all aspects of Samoan and Polynesian culture, so plentiful food and craft displays also play an important part in any Teuila festival.

Teuila is named after Samoa’s national plant, otherwise known as red ginger, which is used in abundance to make spectacular floral decorations around the islands during festival week.

Samoan arts and crafts are always up for display during the festival with artists also putting on demonstrations. There are always all kinds of festivities from traditional games and dances to modern dances and fun games. A lot of sporting bodies in the country also schedule their tournaments during the Teuila week.

The Miss Samoa Pageant is normally the finale of the annual festival with the national event always attracting thousands of spectators.
