Top officials from Samsung visit Samoa

Top officials from the Korean electronics giant Samsung visited the country and met with the Samoan government and business leaders recently.

Samsung Executive Chairman Jay Y. Lee and a delegation from Korea and New Zealand visited Samoa early this week to launch its “Solve for Tomorrow” initiative, which is part of the electronic giant's social corporate responsibility to the people of Samoa. 

The “Solve for Tomorrow” initiative is designed to benefit students and teachers with their capacity building in science, technology, engineering and mathematical subjects, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Samoa Stationery and Books (S.S.A.B.) Ltd.

Speaking on behalf of the Korean firm, Samsung's President and Chief Officer (South East Asia and Oceania), Sang Ho Jo, acknowledged the benefits of the company's initiative.

“It is our hope that through this program Samoan youth can gain problem-solving experience in their communities by developing their technical skills and knowledge," he said. “Moreover, to grow the leaders who will lead the sustainable development of Samoa."

Mr. Sang Ho Jo also acknowledged the support of the Samoa Government, through the Ministry of Education as well as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the launching of its “Solve for Tomorrow” program.

S.S.A.B. – which is the exclusive agent of Samsung in Samoa for TVs, whiteware, air conditions and home appliances – was invited to meet with the Executive Chairman of Samsung and the Samsung delegation.

The C.E.O. of S.S.A.B. Tofilau Fiti Leung Wai along with her senior management said they were humbled to meet with the top executives of Korea’s largest conglomerate.

“Having the Top Executive Chairman in Samoa is certainly a milestone because Samoa is such a small nation.

The visit is a platform to strengthen Samoa’s relationship with Samsung and allow greater access to cutting-edge technology according to C.E.O. Tofilau.

Samsung Executive Chairman Jay Y. Lee said he was excited to meet with C.E.O. Tofilau and thanked her for her passion to grow the Samsung brand in Samoa. This year marks 10 years of the S.S.A.B. becoming an agent for Samsung in Samoa with the partnership continuing to thrive – due to both companies sharing similar goals of customer satisfaction and giving back to the community.

Speaking on behalf of S.S.A.B. C.E.O. Tofilau said she would like to thank all their customers and users of Samsung products in Samoa for their support and loyalty over the years.
