Police have found the body of a 55-year-old man who went missing last Thursday and believe the vehicle he was in fell off a cliff at Fagafau in Savai'i.

The Ministry of Police Prisons and Corrections Services advised in a post on its Facebook page at 8.14 pm Sunday evening that they've found the body of Tasi Pologa Tuipeā and he was pronounced dead upon his discovery.

"Samoa Police, Prisons and Corrections Services confirms that the body of 55-year-old Tasi Pologa Tuipeā has been found," the Ministry's post reads.

"However, we regret to inform that he was pronounced dead when police and emergency services located his body.

"It is suspected that the vehicle he was traveling on may have fallen off the cliff (mako) out at Fagafau.

"We ask the public's patience as police investigation continues into this matter.

"We convey our sincerest condolences to the grieving families. Faamafanafana tele le Atua  i Aiga faanoanoa."

The deceased from Asau and Samatau-Tai had been missing since last Thursday with the Police issuing a public appeal on Sunday morning for information on his whereabouts.

He left his family home in Asau Savai'i last Wednesday and was last seen last Thursday morning at Samatau-tai, according to the Ministry. His sighting at Samatau-tai was the last time he was seen in public.

The Police, in their earlier post on Sunday morning, published two recent photos of Mr. Tuipeā as well as a brown-coloured Toyota Fortuner Registration Number 11741 that the missing man was last seen driving.
