Su'a gets nod as Attorney General
Cabinet has upheld a recommendation from a Public Service Commission Selection Panel to appoint Su’a Hellene Wallwork as Samoa's permanent Attorney General for the next three years.
Su'a – who was sworn in as Attorney General on 28 September 2021 on an interim basis – holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Bachelor of Arts from the Auckland University in New Zealand and will now lead the Office of the Attorney General
Clocking over 20 years working as a qualified solicitor in Samoa and abroad, Su'a was also the President of the Samoa Law Society prior to her appointment last year.
She took up the role of top legal advisor for the Government after her predecessor, Savalenoa Mareva Betham-Annandale was sacked by the current Government.
The permanent appointment of Su'a was announced by the Press Secretariat on Wednesday night, along with two other appointments for top jobs within the Government.
Attempts by the Samoa Observer to get a comment from Su'a, following her permanent appointment as the Attorney General, were unsuccessful.
Su'a took oath as the Attorney General on an interim basis in December last year, while the Government began looking for a new chief legal advisor.
At the swearing-in ceremony last year, Su'a who is from the villages of Gagaoifolevao Lefaga and Vailele, acknowledged the Head of State, the Prime Minister and the Cabinet for trusting her to take on the role to serve the country.
She also made special mention of her parents: Seiuli Paul Wallwork and Su’a Julia Wallwork for their ongoing support throughout her life.
Su’a is a graduate of Auckland University and has been a lawyer for 24 years. Her career started in the Office of the Attorney General in Samoa, and then worked for 12 years in New Zealand in various senior posts in private practice as well as for the New Zealand Police.
The Attorney General was a senior legal adviser of the New Zealand Commerce Commission, before returning to Samoa with her husband Travis Lamb to start their own firm Wallwork Lamb lawyers in 2013.
She served as President of the S.L.S. in 2017 and then as Vice President for 3 years until recently when she was re-elected again to the president's position.
