The matai from Leauvaa Tuala Siuta Mase said as always this Christmas for the village was about unity and their faith in the Lord above.

"The lights in front of our village started from the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa last year. This year we had a church fellowship and we made the decision that we should have the decorations for Christmas this year all around the village," he said.

"There is no competition to see who has the best lights but we are doing this because this year is about family and celebrating together."

He said decorating for Christmas was not a new thing but working together ensured that there was always unity in the village.

"The village didn't have a meeting to put up lights and have decorations in front of our houses and clean up the garden for Christmas," he said.

"Each and every family in here are happy to support and are motivating each other to make our village more beautiful. The whole village will be putting their lights on"

Leauvaa  Village turned on their lights last week and it is quite a sight when one drives past it. According to the village elders, there will be a large number of visitors coming to Samoa and they hope to make their village shine.

The village chief said some of the decorations were so beautiful, they had observed people stopping in from of the village and taking photos.

"We like that. That goes to show how beautiful our village is and how much hard work have been put by people," he said.

Mr Tuala also had a message for Christmas that he wanted to share with the rest of Samoa. He said people have to understand the true meaning of Christmas and not limit it to just the feasting.

"As Samoans we have to know what our values are and we should never forget the place of our heavenly father in our lives."
