The good values and foundations taught to students at St Mary’s College at Vaimoso continues to give, with former students still contributing to the development of the school today.

On Wednesday, the St Mary’s Old Girls Association (SMOGA) donated $100,000 to the school, which were funds raised during the college’s 65th year anniversary celebration.

A constant flow funding from former scholars which include high profile Samoan women have over the years led to the upgrade of facilities at the school which continues to churn out women leaders and trendsetters.

The hall at the St Mary’s College was filled with former and current students when the presentation was made by the alumni.

A celebratory mood filled the air with dances performed by old scholars and current students added colour to the occasion.

Her Highness Masiofo Faamausili Leinafo Tuimalealiifano, the patroness of SMOGA and an ex-pupil, handed over the cheque which was received with gratitude by the school principal Lepetiaina Sina Fitu.

Last year the St Mary’s College commemorated 65 years since it was established in 1956 by the Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary’s.

SMOGA President Afamasaga Vernier Punivalu Galuvao acknowledged the Government of Samoa, the sponsors, all the ex-pupils, families, friends and everyone who supported the anniversary celebrations.

Keeping true to its school motto, ‘agaga kerisiano’, SMOGA has donated the anniversary proceeds to its alma mater.

The school also recently received a brand new netball court fully funded by SMOGA as well as other assistance and support for the staff and students.

The College currently has a roll of more than 400 young girls being educated at its facilities and has a high annual passing rate of Form 6 students to the National University of Samoa. Donations such these will greatly assist school developments for the benefit of the students today and in the future.
